Course runs for 8 consequtive Sundays from 8:30am to 11:00am. Course cost $350 for 8 lessons.

The kids sail in boats in pairs taking turns for 20 hours of structured sailing with qualified Yachting Australia Tackers Instructors & Assistant Instructors - all equipment provided and no sailing experience needed.

Tackers is aimed at providing kids aged 7-12 with a fun, safe, and affordable way to get into sailing. Tackers 1 introduces children to the basics of sailing through games on and off the water.
Participants will receive a Tackers t-shirt, Tackers water bottle, Tackers cap and a certificate.

Students should wear clothes and shoes that can get wet and bring a dry set to change into after the class. Bring a hat and towel and make sure the kids have on plenty of sunscreen because the sun can be quite harsh on the water. A packed morning tea, Lunch and water bottle is also essential, just like a day at school. The club provides lifejackets and all boats and equipment for the classes.

The Tackers Programme is offered by Humpybong Yacht Club as a Tackers Centre serving the northern suburbs of Brisbane and the Redcliffe area.

Course Outcome

By the end of the Tackers 1 course, the participants will be able to:

• Steer with tiller extension under towing paddling power
• Tie a figure 8 knot, round twice and two half hitches
• Tack (push turn)
• Gybe (pull turn)
• Reach around a figure of 8 course using both tacking and gybing
• Sail with tiller extension
• Sail upwind and downwind by following the safety boat

You will gain your Tackers 1 completion certificate.
