Do I need to bring anything special such as wetsuits, waterproof shoes etc?
Yes, but don't rush out and buy the whole outfit just yet.
Wetsuits are only really needed in our waters in the depths of winter. Durring the warmer months you are better to dress for the sun with long sleves and leggings. You will get wet sailing so quick dry fabrics work best.
Waterproof closed footwear is essential due to the rocky foreshore. K-mart and BigW sell cheap surf shoes that will get you through your first season and protect your feet well enough. Once you've committed to a second season it might be time to look.
Hats, sunglasses, and sunscreen are essential.
We will provide lifejackets for the duration of your class.

Do I need to register with Australian Sailing and become a club member prior to registering for a learn to sail course?
No.
By registering for one of our courses you automatically become a club member for the duration of your course. Club membership also includes registration with Australian Sailing (the peak body for sailing in Australia).
Once you have registered for your first course you will recieve an Australian Sailing Sailor Identification Number that will help you to register for future courses and events.

What is your cancellation policy if the weather is bad or too windy?
If the weather conditions are not safe to conduct a class the instructors and race officers will make a decison as early as possible and notify all registered participants.
If learn to sail acitivities can be conducted safely on-shore or in the clubhouse they will be. This avoids delaying future classes.
If activities need to be completly abandoned, the instructors and race officiers will arrange for make up schedules to be run.
The club does have an official policy on Strong Winds here.

If I miss a class can I make it up later?
Yes.
We regularly run make up classes for students who miss a class due to illness or other reasons, so long as you notify your instructors in advance.

Do I have to be a member to sail at Humpybong Yacht Club?
If you are a visiting sailor, that sails with us less than three times a year, No. But you do have to be a member of an Australian Sailing affiliated club.
If you sail more than three times a year at Humpybong, then you will need to become a member. This does not include sailing as part of a learn to sail class as you are automatically a member by registering for the class.

We often have silors return to sailing through our learn to sail program. Start by enrolling in one of our classes and our team of instructors will start you off with a skills assesment and move you through the program at a speed to suit how much you remember from your days' sailing.
