Last season the Committee set the ground work for the development of Club officials and volunteers. We spent a considerable amount of Club funds training people in boat operation skills in particular.
We ran operators course internally and not only did the groups have a great time but their skills really showed up in the regattas we ran; particularly the A Class cat states. Unfortunately we did not have the funds to support members to attend some of the more expensive Australian sailing programs.
All that has changed ….
This year the intention was to do the same and our ability to do that have been boosted by a grant from the State government. We are now able to pay for Club members to qualify on some of those programs needed to ensure we have the sills to develop our young and old sailors and to improve the already high standards of race management at the Club.
This season we intend to repeat the Powerboat Operators program and the Safety Boat Operators courses. We want now to offer places on the Australian Sailing coaches program and the race management programs. The first program to be supported will be the Jury program to be attended by Peter and Zane Bradbury in the lead up to the Nacra Nationals in January.
If you have entertained the thought of getting into sailing more and developing any of those skills, please contact any of your Committee members and we can discuss what the programs entail. I can guarantee you that there are plenty of challenges learning new skills but the rewards are worth it.
