A committed crew of around 50 sailors and the race management team of all ages and backgrounds braved high winds, torrential rain, a one metre chop, low visibility and cold temperatures to complete the first day of the 2017 Belvedere Humpybash.
The view of the back of the start boat was not quite as bad as this…
The racing was tight and there were a number of surprises. It was great to see the Div 1 fleet hit the bottom mark at about the same time as the Div 3 and 4 boats headed off. There were sails everywhere along with rain spray and a bit of language.
What happened to Colin in the first race? thank goodness there was a second. Anyone see the UQ guys trying to do somersaults into the waves going uphill? Lucky there were plenty of yachts racing; the odds on powerboats making it were pretty low today!!
Provisional results are posted here: http://hyc.net.au/racing/regattas/humpybash-2017/
When it was all over and the rain eased off, it was time for a refreshment or two and the war stories. Outside the promise for the day to come …..
Its all kicking off again tomorrow with a much improved weather forecast. 10 – 15 kts from the S through to SE, a partly cloudy day with little chance of rain and warmer temperatures.
Race briefing is at 9:00am. If you were not there today but a feeling like a a great day on the water; come on down. Register tonight on line or at the club up till 9 tomorrow.
