It is just over a month to the start of SE Queensland’s premier “all classes” off-the-beach regatta. The 2017 HYC Belverdere Humpybash will be sailed this year over the weekend 21-22 October at Woody Point. The forecast is looking pretty good with more moderate temperatures and plenty of wind on the cards.
The successful format of previous years will be continued in 2017. Last year we had more than 60 entries and we are expecting an even bigger fleet for Humpybash 2017.
Racing will start on the water in the middle of the day on Saturday and again early on Sunday morning. We aim to have everyone of the road for their return home by mid afternoon on Sunday.
Entry fees have been maintained at the same level as for the past three regattas.
The junior fleet will sail as separate course inshore of the senior fleet, close to Pelican Park easy for family and friends to watch the Humpybash action. Last year we had a strong fleet from the Sunshine Coast and HYC. This year we are expecting a larger fleet from all over the region and including Optis, Sabots and Open Bics. Racing will be paced to suit the level of the sailors.
We are expecting a large fleet of catamarans and Lasers especially this year as people start getting ready for the State and National titles being run in Queensland. We will be running four divisions depending on numbers and are hoping for a turn out of windsurfers this year.
Camping and Accommodation
There will be a number of people staying at the club for the Humpybash. All facilities will be open and available for tents and camper vans from mid Friday.
The Club will be providing breakfast and lunches at a very reasonable cost and there will be plenty of coffee, drinks and snack food available for purchase.
For dinner, we are hoping that competitors and supporters will support our Club sponsors, the Belverdere Hotel just over the park. Their new restaurant and bar layouts are impressive as are their meals. We will be offering special packages for participants in conjunction with the Bel.
As always, we are dependent upon volunteers to run larger regattas. It not only makes the event cheaper for the participants and maximises the benefits for the Club, but is also fun. We are a friendly crew at the Bong. If you have a few hours spare on either day and would like to spend some time out on the water or would like to work with the Humpybash on-shore team, contact us at firstname.lastname@example.org. Special skills are not a prerequisite. You may find that this will open further opportunities to get new and different skills and formal training with HYC.
