Online Entry Planning is progressing full speed for the inaugural Humpybong WinterBash Regatta in conjunction with the Moreton Bay Boating Club. The 2016 dates are confirmed for 30th and 31st July with future regattas to be held on the last weekend of July.
This is your chance to have both a sail with a purpose of getting from one place to another with the exhilaration of competition across all classes of boat. Sail the way they did in the old days; use your skill to go from one place to another rather than having the course set so that you sail the same old sequence between the cans.
WinterBash is open to all classes with a minimum entry of 5 boats for a class to be scored on its own. Courses will be set and the races started, depending on numbers, in five divisions:
1 Mixed fleet multihulls
2. Mixed fleet keeler and trailable monohulls
3. Off the beach multihills
4. High performance off the beach monohulls
5. Other off the beach monohulls
Additionally, juniors will be catered for with their own course in the relatively sheltered areas of Bramble Bay.
One race will be sailed each day of the WinterBash;
- Day One – a two lap triangular course in Bramble Bay with the Cock of the Bay trophy up for grabs for the fastest elapsed time all classes (approximately 6km)
- Day Two – a marathon course by division , sailing Woody Point Jetty, Shorncliffe Pier, Otter Rock, Redcliffe light and Newport with all boats finishing at the Woody Point Jetty
The format or order of races may be changed to take best advantage of the weather forecast with the primary focus being the success of the Marathon.
The course length will be set according to the class and forecast weather so that the race duration is at least 4 hours.
Notice of Race
The Winterbash NOR is attached. Sailing instructions will be made available as soon as final race control and safety plans are completed.
Sponsorship and Publicity
Sponsorship of the Winterbash is being finalised but there are still opportunities for businesses to get on board. Contact David Begley (0402 422 447) or Peter Bradbury (to discuss details.
Take advantage of the opportunity to showcase your class or club. We have set the course to maximise visibility – jetty to jetty, down the Redcliffe foreshore (hopefully the weather will oblige). If the numbers of boats entering are high; this will have significant presence.
