Over the Queen’s Birthday long weekend a number of Humpybong Yacht Club sailors ventured out to Brisbane Valley Sailing Club for the annual Wivenhoe Winter Marathon. From the comments on Facebook a lot of fun was had by all sailors both on and off the water.
Humpybong Youth sailors Matthew Hatton and Zane Bradbury both took to the water. Matthew guided the family’s Arrow “Snot Rocket” around the lake while Zane showed everyone what you can do with no experience on a Lase S* Box! Peter, Leon, Luc, Dave, Lou, Matt and Shane represented the more experienced end of the club’s racing group on A-Class’s and an F16 Viper.
While the southerlies were pushing strong across Bramble Bay the waters of Wivenhoe are much more sheltered and with winds struggling to reach 10 knots (and spending most of the weekend below 4) . According to one competitor, “it was a hard day at the office,” to get around the marathon course.
